Mount Vernon, Oregon
We crested the Ochocos and coasted into Mitchell. The town is small, and has a bear living in a cage at the gas pump. We have been riding with a woman who is 69, her son, and her 10 year old grandson. She rode the Trail 20 years ago, and is doing the Oregon section again.
John Day was just out of reach, so we stayed in Mount Vernon, a few miles short. At the campground, we met a man, Paul Hodge, from England who was traveling the Trail from East to West. He rebuilt a BOB trailer with a fiberglass body, which was impressively light. Very interesting man to chat with, and only a few days from the end of his tour.
